Dakar Container Terminal

The Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund provided financing to expand and modernize container terminals 1, 2, and 3 at the existing port in Dakar. The investments to be carried out include: road works, installation and supply of electricity, water and sanitation networks, rehabilitation of the terminal’s platforms, acquisition of ship-to-shore cranes, lot machinery, construction of structures for operations (hangars, administrative buildings), IT systems and setting up safety equipment for facilities. The Project will increase the throughput capacity of the container terminal from 335,000 to 550,000 TEU per annum.

The total transaction size was €200 million +, with the Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund providing €12.5 million. EAIF was willing to take sovereign risk on the project, with the commercial banks requiring Political Risk Insurance.
